Fairhope City Council President Jack Burrell is seeking re-election to Fairhope City Council, Place 1. Burrell, a 51 year-old aerospace engineer and businessman who works as a contractor for the U.S. Army Research and Development Center designing and analyzing various military hardware, was elected to his first term as a Councilman in 2012. He was subsequently voted Fairhope City Council President by fellow Council members at his first council meeting in 2012, a position he continues in today. Burrell states he has accomplished all of the goals he established prior to being elected, citing the city’s total debt has been decreased by more than 30%, live streaming video and video archiving of Council meetings and Planning Commission meetings have led to a more open government, working together with other council members, the Mayor and city staffers have created a sense of unity within the city, and working on the Alabama Governor appointed Coastal Insurance Work Group to find solutions to lower the cost of wind insurance for all residents rounds out his primary campaign promises in the last election. If re-elected, Burrell promises to continue the aggressive debt reduction he has championed, freeing up needed funds for capital improvement projects, while continuing to strive to maintain the unique ambiance of Fairhope by preserving and enhancing the beauty, tranquility and quality of life that make Fairhope one of the most special places on earth.
